[01:07:08] <StFS> is there any way to get more information on the console to try to see what the problem is? I tried --verbose but that doesn't work... --help doesn't do anything either
[01:07:31] <noah> StFS: check workspace/.metadata/.log
[01:10:21] <StFS> noah: nothing really... "!MESSAGE The workspace exited with unsaved changes in the previous session; refreshing workspace to recover changes."
[01:10:45] <StFS> noah: but that comes almost as soon as I start it up... not when it starts hanging

[08:05:29] <mk> debug ignores replaced code during run. how do I fix this?
[08:14:02] <francis4> it works for me, can you be more specific
[08:15:10] <mk> when I run a debug, then change code, for example, adding a println, it does not print that despite the code executing over that area...
[08:16:00] <francis4> hmmm, i do that kind of thing all the time, you are running "debug" not doing "run"?
[08:16:24] <mk> I am, yes
[08:16:31] <francis4> when you add code to a method that's on the stack, you should see it reset back to the start of the method on the stack
[08:16:53] <francis4> check your compiler options maybe? (do you have some debugging thing turned off?)
[08:18:18] <mk> looks fine
[08:18:26] <mk> I also can't add breakpoints
[08:18:52] <francis4> in what code?
[08:19:00] <mk> in all code
[08:19:02] <francis4> have you tried a really simple test proogram of your own?
[08:19:20] <mk> I add a breakpoint before debugging, run, it breaks, I remove it, add it, it no longer breaks
[08:19:28] <francis4> I have seen cases hwere you can't add breakpoints in some plugin code, presumably because it's not compiled with debug or something
[08:19:44] <mk> this is my own code, and it's pretty simple
[08:19:59] <francis4> this is java, right?

[08:24:32] <mk> it'll probably break my profiler, but perhaps. can I install both?
[08:24:53] <francis4> yes, just have them in separate directories, i work with many versions with no problems
[08:24:58] <francis4> what's your profiler?
[08:25:49] <mk> I think it's just called eclipse profiler
[08:26:15] <francis4> if it comes with eclipse, it will probably work fine
[08:26:25] <mk> it doesn't
[08:26:27] <francis4> even if it does not, going to a new version of eclipse should not break it
[08:26:36] <mk> it has
[08:26:54] <mk> it should be ok if I can install both though

[08:28:35] <francis4> depends on what you are doing, I usually just get the platform SDK download if i'm only doing java development. It might be called eclipse classic or somthing
[08:29:29] <mk> they've got ide for java developers, so I'm wondering what the difference is

[08:48:00] <mk> the new release solves that problem, but I still can't get the debug working
[08:48:31] <mk> is there a way to globally restore defaults in prefs?
[08:49:52] <francis4> there is a way to blow away your metadata which will have that effect, though you will lose your launch configs
[08:50:33] <francis4> if you are working with the same workspace, you will probably have to blow away the metadata if you go between versions, particilarly if you go back to 3.1, it will for sure be incompatible
[08:50:34] <mk> sure, if it doesn't work I can restore
[08:50:47] <francis4> delete the directory .metadata in your workspace

[21:41:31] <patrin70> Hi all
[21:42:29] <patrin70> I looked around for some info about the export problem I'm experiencing, but I was not able to find anything relevant
[21:42:47] <patrin70> apparently my eclipse doesn't create OSGi bundle manifest when exporting a plugin
[21:43:01] <patrin70> it just create a default JVM manifest
[21:43:13] <patrin70> so the plugin is not loaded by the framework
[21:43:39] <patrin70> do you have any idea on how to debug the export wizard ?
[21:43:57] *** |conan| has joined #eclipse
[21:43:59] <patrin70> e.g. enabling log
[21:44:43] <rcjsuen> There's technically a way to debug the Eclipse you currently are using.

[22:02:48] <cdan> hi there
[22:02:56] <rcjsuen> cdan: Hi
[22:04:13] <cdan> I have a question regarding the JUnitRunner from eclipse
[22:07:37] <cdan> the runner lookes for all methods starting with "test" or for a static "suite" method
[22:07:52] <cdan> this is how it builds the test suite it will run
[22:09:14] <cdan> I want to change it , to also try another method for building the test suite, lets say "giveMeAllTheTests"
[22:09:48] <cdan> is this possible without changing the junit plugin's code, recompile etc. ?

[22:10:51] <paulweb515_> cdan: no, you have to pull the source for the testrunner code into your workspace, change it, and generate a plugin.jar that you can re-deploy
[22:11:42] <cdan> :(

[22:54:27] <Ellesar> mmh how can I copy the "Builders
[22:54:37] <Ellesar> " setting of a project (project settings)
[22:54:41] <Ellesar> to another project?
[22:55:10] <rcjsuen> Ellesar: That really depends on the settings.
[22:55:17] <rcjsuen> It could, in theory, be stored anywhere.
[22:55:39] <Ellesar> So, I got Qt
[22:55:50] <Ellesar> with the plugin from trolltech which should integrate Qt into eclipse
[22:56:08] <Ellesar> when I create a NEW project i can choose to have a Qt GUI project
[22:56:33] <Ellesar> this works fine, it compiles (in the builder settings is a Qt Makefile Generator on top - which i thinks makes the qmake thing)
[22:57:12] <Ellesar> the problem is that I have a project which I havent created with this option, so I should manually add this entry
[22:57:20] *** jmcconne1l has quit IRC
[22:57:29] <Ellesar> and i dont know how to do this :>
[22:57:34] <rcjsuen> You could try checking the two project's .project file.
[22:57:47] <rcjsuen> And any other .* files in the project root, really.
[22:57:52] <rcjsuen> And the .settings folder if applicable.
[22:58:32] <Ellesar> so there's no method to somehow "convert" a C++ project to a Qt project over the IDE?
[22:58:43] <Ellesar> *checking the .* files in the meantime*
[22:59:27] <rcjsuen> Ellesar: If the Qt plug-in offers such a functionality *shrugs*
[22:59:37] <rcjsuen> I don't do Qt, nor do I do C/C++.
[23:00:17] <Ellesar> ah k. yeah im new to eclipse and so i thought that this would be some standard thing that you can copy the whole properties between projects
[23:01:44] <Ellesar> hmm k. in the .project file i've got these 4 additional lines
[23:01:44] <Ellesar> <buildCommand>
[23:01:44] <Ellesar> <name>com.trolltech.qtcppproject.QtMakefileGenerator</name>
[23:01:44] <Ellesar> <arguments>
[23:01:44] <Ellesar> </arguments>
[23:01:44] <Ellesar> </buildCommand>
[23:03:24] <rcjsuen> Ellesar: Well, so you could try copying those to your original project.
[23:03:30] <rcjsuen> I would recommend backing up your original project first though.
[23:03:33] <rcjsuen> Who knows what might happen.
[23:05:24] <Ellesar> i try on a new project what happens then
