[04:25:45] <rawake> I keep getting an out of memory error while trying to run eclipse... I've been running eclipse for like a year now and now its complaining about memory... I gave it Xmx650mb and -XX:MaxPermSize=104M which is a lot more than what it used to have yet it still keeps crashing... anyone have any ideas?

[04:28:42] <rawake> since eclipse won't let me run it how would I remove plugins?
[04:28:49] <rawake> ijuma: I don't understand your question
[04:29:14] <ijuma> rawake: can you paste the out of memory message in a pastebin please?
[04:29:22] <rawake> ijuma: I see something saying it's a heap error when it crashes if that's what you mean
[04:29:34] <ijuma> rawake: yes, that's what i was asking
[04:29:43] <ijuma> and you sure you passes the right command?
[04:29:43] <rawake> ijuma: ok, you still want the paste?
[04:29:51] <rawake> yes

[04:30:42] <ijuma> do you have enough memory that you can increase that just to see if it helps?
[04:30:53] <ijuma> i find it strange anyway, because i have it lower than that and have no issues
[04:30:58] <ijuma> but i do mostly java development

[05:41:30] <ijuma> rawake: just that it seems to happen while your PHP plugin is building projects
[05:42:02] <ijuma> rawake: so, you can either increase the Xmx even more or do something about that plugin (upgrade/disable/remove)
[05:42:37] <rawake> ijuma: how do I upgrade it if I can't start eclipse
[05:43:46] <MacIver> </agent smith>
[05:43:47] <ijuma> rawake: you could do it manually. This can be quite difficult if you did not use a separate extension location depending on the plugin
[05:43:59] <ijuma> i usually do that, so it's easy
[05:45:04] <ijuma> rawake: or just download eclipse again and point it to your workspace
[05:45:13] <ijuma> and then add plug-ins as you need
[05:45:42] <ijuma> rawake: have you tried to increase Xmx? Why not make it 1000m just to get eclipse to open?

[12:34:05] <nitind> What cache? And isn't the JSP editor complaining a lot about your scriplets?
[12:34:16] <Elvanor> That's why I am sure there is a wrong cache somewhere

[12:39:49] <Elvanor> Because clearly these errors are cached
[12:39:52] <Elvanor> somewhere
[12:40:24] <nitind> Elvanor: Cleaning and rebuilding is supposed to clear up the messages in the Problems view. It doesn't affect all of the messages in the editor.

[12:44:22] <nitind> Elvanor: But then being a .gsp file makes this complicated. How did you get it to open with the JSP editor?

[13:15:06] <MicW> the only way to fix this is to use quickfix

[13:15:18] <Elvanor> nitind: Hey, when I come back to the Validation page, the checkbox is no longer there !!

[19:59:26] <Mician> I am looking for a source code on the detection of syntax errors in a text plugin
[19:59:48] <rcjsuen> every text plug-in detects errors differentl

[20:00:31] <rcjsuen> okay, so it knows the positions

[23:21:28] <cstromme> Hi everybody. :)
[23:21:57] <rcjsuen> cstromme: Hi
[23:22:09] <cstromme> What's the most stripped down (but functional as far as code highlighting and looking up methods) version of Eclipse available?
[23:22:58] <rcjsuen> cstromme: Specifying the programming language would probably help.
[23:23:05] <cstromme> Ah, sorry. :)
[23:23:06] <cstromme> Java
[23:23:40] <rcjsuen> You can use the platform runtime binary with JDT on top, it's not exactly "stripped" though.
[23:23:45] <rcjsuen> I don't know what is "stripped but functional".
[23:23:59] <rcjsuen> JDT is kind of "take it or leave it", you either have the UI components or you don't.
[23:24:09] <rcjsuen> Well, most plug-ins are like that anyway.
[23:24:26] <cstromme> Well, I'm basically just looking for code highlighting, it automatically looking up methods etc in classes (popup window), and the ability to compile and run my code inside the editor.
[23:24:41] <rcjsuen> There's no "editor only" version of the JDT.
[23:24:52] <rcjsuen> JDT assumes you have a workspace and projects contained within said workspace and such.
[23:24:55] <cstromme> Oh, ok.
[23:24:59] <rcjsuen> Sure you can open external files.
[23:25:06] <rcjsuen> I don't know how well that's going to fly though.

[23:27:21] <eeble|wor1> Hi. I'm having a nasty error with an eclipse 3.2 and 3.3 based product (Gemalto Developer Suite) basically, it uses eclipse as a backend, and I'm trying to add the subclipse plugin, the plugin works with vanilla versions of eclipse, but when I use GDS, I get the following error trying to install the plugin: "The resulting configuration does not contain the platform" Any suggestions on ways to 'force' this to install?
[23:28:10] <rcjsuen> eeble|wor1: One way would be to install the plug-in in a vanilla Eclipse and then copy those plug-ins and features to the product.
[23:28:33] <rcjsuen> That might work.
[23:28:43] <eeble|wor1> rcjsuen: now that would be too easy... lol. so just hunt them down and copy them to the proper folder?
[23:28:53] <rcjsuen> eeble|wor1: That's the idea.
[23:29:00] <eeble|wor1> awesome, thanks
[23:29:18] <rcjsuen> You might want to use extension locations though.
[23:29:19] <rcjsuen> ~manage
[23:29:19] <KOS-MOS> Manage your Eclipse environment - http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/opensource/library/os-ecl-manage/
[23:29:36] <rcjsuen> This would probably save you the copy/pasting.
